Цель урока: ознакомление учащихся с обычаями и традициями празднования праздника “St. Valentine’s Day”.

Задачи урока:

Обучающие:

1) Познакомить учащихся с традициями и обычаями празднования дня святого Валентина.

2) Способствовать формированию у учащихся навыков лингвострановедческой компетенции

3) Активизировать лексику на тему “St. Valentine’s Day”

4) Познакомить с фольклорным и поэтическим наследием англоязычных стран

Развивающие:

1) Развивать творческую фантазию, познавательный интерес, инициативу в осуществлении иноязычной речевой деятельности

Воспитательные:

1) Воспитывать у учащихся чувство прекрасного и уважение к культуре и традициям других народов

2) Воспитывать чувство взаимной ответственности, прививать навыки работы в коллективе.

3)Развивать социокультурные знания.

Оборудование: компьютер, раздаточный материал:

1) текст о возникновении праздника;

2) алфавит;

3) карточки с заданиями;

4) заготовки “валентинок”

Ход урока

1. Организационный момент

Good morning, dear boys and girls! Glad to see you! Do you like holidays?

And I like them, too. What holidays do you know? (Учащиеся называют известные им праздники.) We start our lesson, which connected with a beautiful holiday, one of the most popular in Great Britain. On the 14th of February people celebrate St. Valentine’s Day. This holiday is the favourite holiday of all English children and adults we will read about history this holiday, have a competition and write cards. I hope you’ll enjoy our English lesson and be friendly to each other. I wish you good luck! Let’s start!

This is a sad story about love. Now let’s read the text about it

There is a beautiful legend behind St. Valentine’s Day. Saint Valentine lived in Rome in the third century AD . At that time the Emperor of Rome was  Claudius. He wasn’t very popular because  he was trying to get more and more people for his army. The men didn’t want to go to the army and Claudius thought that it was because they didn’t want to leave their wives and children.”If they don’t get married, they’ll join the army,” he thought and passed a law which banned marriage.

Valentine was  a Christian priest who didn’t  like the new law. He secretly married people who were in love. One night the emperor’s  soldiers caught him and put him  in prison. Valentine was going to die.

Many  young  people  felt sorry for Valentine and visited  him in prison. One of them was  the daughter  of a prison guard. On the day of his execution Valentine wrote a note to her and signed it “Love  from your Valentine “. This was on 14  February 269 AD.

Since then 14 February has been  the Day of Love, when people  send love letters  and presents to each other. They don’t  sign the cards with  their names , but write “Guess Who” or “Your Valentine”

At first this was a European tradition, but then  it became  popular in other countries. It became to Russia too, but a lot of people say, ”If you love somebody , you should show it every day, not only
